Although the experience created by Scandle is designed to be a relaxed, joyful and sensual moment. Candles can be hazardous, if not monitored and treated with proper care as fire is involved. We want to make sure you make the most of your #scandlexperience, please bear in mind these guidelines we’ve outlined for you below so you can safely enjoy your candle from the first burn until the last fliker.
Prior to lighting your candle for the first time and after each burn, trim your candle wick to approximately 5 mm, ¼ of an inch or until you remove the excess soot head from the previous burn. This helps to prevent uneven or fast burning, dripping or flaring and promotes a steady flame, limits shooting and increases how the scent of the candle fills the room. Invest in a good pair of wick trimmers that will cut and remove the excess wick cleanly, alternatively you can pinch it with your fingers.
Choose to place the candle in a safe spot: 1. Avoid drafts, vents or air currents to prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting and excessive dripping. 2. Never burn the candle near anything that can catch fire like drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations and furniture. 3. Keep candles out of the reach or places where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
Never leave a burning candle unattended or lit while sleeping. If you are going to leave the room or go to bed, make sure to extinguish all candles first.
Never touch or move a burning candle. Never move the vessel when the wax is melted.
The first burn is essential to maximizing the life of your candle. It’s important to set the candle memory correctly, burn the candle until the wax melts across the entire surface up to the outer rim of the vessel as this will create an even burn. Once you have set the candle memory, to further ensure tunneling from happening it is necessary to burn the candle up to 2-3 hours at a time or until the wax has pooled to the edges. To preserve the fragrance and prevent excessive heat build-up and wick mushrooming, do not burn more than 4 hours consecutively.
For safety reasons, do not burn a candle all the way down. Stop when there is 10 mm of wax or less remaining in the jar, the flame needs a solid base of wax to avoid overheating the glass container.
If you are burning multiple candles at the same time, place each candle at least three inches apart from one another to ensure they do not overlap melting one another or create their own drafts.
Efficient burning means the flame is not flickering, teardrop shaped and upright. If it is not the case and the flame becomes too high or flickers, it is an indication that the candle is not properly burning and the flame isn’t controlled. Extinguish, let it cool and trim the wick before relighting.
To maximize scent throw, burn in your desired space for 30 min with the door closed. Open windows and doors will disperse the scent and lessen the concentration.
WHEN EXTINGUISHING & AFTER BURNING
Extinguish candle with a snuffer, or dip the wick into melted wax and straighten the wick to prevent smoking and hot wax from splattering. Do not blow out. Do not use water, this can cause the hot wax to splatter and break the glass container.
If soot forms on the inside of the vessel, extinguish the candle, let it cool completely and then wipe with a damp cloth, trim wick and relight.
Before leaving the room, make sure your candle is completely out and there is no glow coming from the wick ember.
Do not touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.
Store candles in a cool, dark and dry place. Avoid placing where they would be in direct sunlight or harsh indoor lighting.
Remove dust and fingerprints from a candle by gently rubbing the surface with a soft cloth. It can be dry or slightly dampened with water.
As a safety reason, keep the wax pool clean, free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.
